Muskies at home away from home

The Muskie boys’ hockey team will be playing a pair of home games away from home this weekend as they continue their drive to the NorWOSSA playoffs.
The black-and-gold (12-3) will call the Emo Arena home tonight and tomorrow afternoon as the cellar-dwelling Sioux Lookout Warriors (0-16) visit for a two-game set.
Tonight’s game begins at 7:30, with tomorrow’s tilt kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
The last time the two teams met Nov. 29-30, the Muskies walloped the Warriors by counts of 16-2 and 19-1.
The Warriors were forced to forfeit their series last weekend to the Red Lake Rams after being unable to come up with a goalie.
The Muskies tuned up for this weekend’s action by doubling the Chisholm Blue Streak 4-2 in exhibition play there last night.
Nathan Miller sparked the black-and-gold, netting a hat trick and assisting on the other goal by Steven Sus. Joel Faust and Alex Hejda replied for Chisholm.
The victory gave the Muskies a sweep of their season series with the Blue Streak. They had blanked Chisholm 5-0 here back on Dec. 3.
The Muskies played last night’s game without forward Justin Larson, who injured his shoulder last Friday in Kenora against the Broncos, and forward Cody Dittaro, who in Tuesday night’s rematch here re-aggravated a knee injury that had kept him out the first half of the season.
Defenceman David Pollard played limited minutes last night after missing the last two games with shoulder and finger injuries.
In related news, the Muskie girls’ team will fill an unexpected schedule gap with an exhibition clash tonight that could have hair-raising consequences.
The black-and-gold will take on a squad of Fort High staff members at 7 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena. But more than bragging rights are on the line as athletic director Darren Johnson has vowed to have his head shaved should the staff team lose.
This isn’t be the first time Johnson has put his locks on the betting block. His Muskie senior girls’ basketball squad won the NorWOSSA title back in November, which forced Johnson to live up to his pledge to dye his hair purple if the team did so.
The girls were supposed to face Sioux Lookout here this weekend but the two-game series had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict for the Warriors.
There may be a small admission fee to attend tonight’s game to help cover the cost of the ice rental.
