“The Fort Frances High School Athletic Department is accepting applications for various coaching positions for the 2005/2006 school year.”
That’s how an ad in the Times reads, which pretty much states that if you’ve got some coaching experience and enjoy working with kids, the Muskies may want you behind one of their benches.
“We feel that Fort Frances High School is part of the entire Rainy River District community,” said principal Gord McCabe, who gave the okay to athletic directors John Gibson and Shane Bliss to run the ad.
“If we have people that are interested in coaching high school sports and would be suitable to coach high school sports, then we’re all for that idea,” added McCabe.
The deadline for accepting applications is Tuesday (June 21). Anyone interested should contact either Bliss or Gibson at 274-7747.
“Last year we actually did it this way, too, because last year was the first year that myself and John Gibson took over as athletic directors,” noted Bliss.
“So to get a fresh start, we put an ad in looking for any coaches and we thought it might be a good idea to do this year again,” he added.
That’s not to suggest any of the Muskies current coaches are leaving the program.
“It doesn’t mean that anyone is being replaced. It just means we want to see if there’s any interest out there so we could have a pool of coaches to draw from,” stressed Bliss, who added he was not aware how many applications, if any at all, had been submitted so far.
Gibson could not be reached for comment.
“Our teachers are stepping forward all the time to coach and the vast majority of our teams this year were coached by teachers,” noted McCabe.
“But you never know because there might be someone out there that has national level coaching that we don’t know about, so we put that ad out to allow those people to move forward,” he remarked.
