Muskies 2-0 in Winnipeg

The Muskie boys’ hockey team is 2-0 at the annual John Taylor hockey tournament in Winnipeg.
The black-and-gold wrapped up an impressive 6-1 win over Sisler this morning, firing 41 shots on the Spartans’ net while Muskie goalie Wade Friesen faced just 17.
Jake Esselink had a pair of goals to pace the Muskies, with Lucas Romaniuk, Brian White, Tyler Miller, and Andrew Easton adding singles.
Miller was named the game’s MVP.
The Muskies started play in the 12-team tournament yesterday with a 2-0 win over Stonewall, with White and Miller getting the goals.
Fort High had 43 shots while Deidrick Brueggerman, making his first start for the Muskies, made 13 saves and was named the game’s MVP.
The Muskies next face a crucial game tonight against the Tech Voc Hornets.
A win guarantees them a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow morning. But if they lose, they might not advance—even with a 2-1 record.
The Muskies and Dryden Eagles are the only two non-Winnipeg teams at the tournament.
In other news, the Muskie junior girls’ volleyball team is in a 10-team tournament in Thunder Bay (due to the large number of players, Fort High has been split into teams—Muskie #1 and Muskie #2).
At last report, Muskie #1 was in second place in Pool ‘A’ with a 6-2 set record. They were to play the Hammarskjold Vikings this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Muskie #2 was in second place in Pool ‘B’ with a 5-3 set record. They were to face the Churchill Trojans late this afternoon.
