Muskie teams pull out victories

Both Muskie hockey teams are going into the holidays on a victorious note after notching wins in dramatic fashion Tuesday night in NorWOSSA play.
In a game held at the Ice For Kids Arena, the Muskie girls earned a 3-2 win in a shootout over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora), with Hailey Clendenning going top shelf on goalie Kate Rodgers in the sixth round.
“A win is a win and we’ll take it every time,” head coach Scott Clendenning said afterwards.
“I have to give T.A. a lot of credit as they kept working hard, and our girls need to understand that in each game that they have to come to play and move their feet,” he added.
“If things aren’t working, they need to look at the feet and get moving, and we were a little sluggish tonight in that sense,” Clendenning admitted.
Ericka Tymkin and Shilo Beck both scored in regulation time, with Caitlyn Williams and Julia Ralko countering for the Saints.
Next up for the Muskie girls is their annual alumni game, set for Tuesday (Dec. 27) at 11:45 a.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena, followed by a trip to Minneapolis the next day for the Schwan Cup tourney. Meanwhile in Kenora, the Muskie boys continued their winning ways Tuesday night, notching their seventh-straight NorWOSSA victory with a 4-3 overtime triumph versus the Broncos.
Grade 10 forward Aaron McDowall netted the game-winning goal in the extra frame, with Nick Kaun, Cole Godbout, and Nick Jourdain also scoring.
The squad now is preparing for a tourney in Duluth next week, with their first game slated for Tuesday against Cloquet.
