The two Muskie soccer teams will have to take the long route to snag an all-Ontario berth after both wrapped up the NorWOSSA regular-season schedules yesterday in Dryden.
The boys finished their regular season slate with a 2-0 loss to the Kenora Broncos after having blanked the host Eagles by that same 2-0 score earlier in the day.
Jameson Shortreed and Anniss Seid scored in the win over Dryden.
Sporting a 3-1-2 record, the Muskies ended up finishing second in the standings, meaning they’ll have to play third-place Dryden in the NorWOSSA semi-final next Wednesday in Kenora.
The winner of that game then will take on the first-place Broncos later that afternoon with a trip to the all-Ontarios on the line.
The Muskie girls, meanwhile, earned their first regular-season win yesterday with a 3-0 shutout over the host Eagles.
But that success was short-lived as the black-and-gold were dumped 6-1 by Kenora later in the day, leaving the squad with a 1-1-4 record for the regular season.
Scoring details from both games were unavailable as of press time.
After a trip to Duluth this weekend for a trio of exhibition games, Fort High will meet Dryden in the NorWOSSA semi-final next Wednesday.
Kenora awaits the winner in the final.
The OFSAA championships are slated for June 2-4 in Windsor.
