It was a great showing for the Muskie girls’ hockey team last week at the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championships in Timmins.
Seeded third for the 16-team tournament, the squad fell short of their goal of a provincial title with a 3-0 loss to second-ranked St. Anne’s CSS in Friday morning’s semi-final.
The black-and-gold then suffered more heartbreak as they were edged 2-1 by ninth-ranked St. David CSS (Waterloo) that afternoon to settle for an “antique bronze” medal.
St. David scored twice in the first period to jump out to 2-0 lead after 15 minutes in the bronze-medal game.
Reece McQuaker scored a beautiful goal with a top-shelf backhander with under five minutes to go in the third, but that’s as close as the Muskies would get.
The black-and-gold had finished atop Pool ‘C’ with a 3-0 record to earn a berth in the quarter-finals Thursday afternoon.
Facing fourth-seeded Leaside, Captain Annalise (CC) Hayes and Jenna Clendenning provided the goals to lead the squad to a 2-0 victory.
Kamryn Sandelovich was in the Muskies’ net for each game at OFSAA.
