Muskie spikers net 12th seed

It was a high number the Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team saw coming from a mile away.
Fort High got the 12th seed for the 16-team OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championship in Dryden, which begins Monday.
The black-and-gold, who are in Pool ‘C,’ won NorWOSSA silver in Dryden on Feb. 20 and then NWOSSAA gold here Feb. 28.
The Muskies, attending their first all-Ontarios since 2006, will open play Monday at 10:30 a.m. against the fifth-ranked General Amherst Bulldogs (Amherstburg).
Fort High then will face the 15th-seeded Southwood Sabres (Cambridge) later that day.
The challenge becomes even more formidable Tuesday at noon, when the Muskies close out pool play against the second-seeded College catholique Samuel-Genest Lasers (Ottawa).
The top two teams from each pool advance to the quarter-finals, which begin Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The consolation quarter-finals, featuring the bottom two teams in each pool, start at 3 p.m.
The playoffs then will wrap up Wednesday, with the final slated for 5 p.m.
All preliminary-round matches will be best-of-three affairs while each playoff one will be a best-of-five battle.
The host Eagles, who beat the Muskies in a five-set cliffhanger in the NorWOSSA final, are the ninth seed and will play in Pool ‘B.’
Fort High and Dryden won’t cross paths unless both make either the championship or consolation final.
