Muskie soccer teams vying for gold

This is for all the marbles.
The Muskie boys’ and girls’ soccer squads both face do-or-die situations today at the NorWOSSA playoffs in Kenora.
The boys have a tougher road, having to beat the Dryden Eagles in the semi-final and then the host Broncos in the final in order to advance to the all-Ontarios next month.
Still, head coach Shane Beckett believes his team is peaking at the right time.
“We feel good going into [today],” Beckett said. “We’ve had one injury all season to Mason McKay in the pre-season, so we’re really surprised and really thankful that we are in great shape.”
The boys sent a strong message in their final regular season match-ups last Wednesday in Kenora, beating Dryden 3-2 before battling the top-seeded Broncos to a 0-0 draw.
The Muskie girls’ team, meanwhile, will have an easier road today—having earned the bye into the final courtesy of their first-place standing during the regular season.
They’ll only have to face an Eagles or Broncos squad, potentially tired from their semi-final battle earlier in the day, with a trip to OFSAA on the line.
Nonetheless, coach Adam Craig doesn’t expect his team to rest on their laurels.
“We don’t have to worry about our girls being over confident,” he said. “We were in a similar situation last year, but lost in [penalty kicks].
“Every game has been close and we know that we will have to play our best game to win the [NorWOSSA] championship,” he stressed.
The black-and-gold have yet to trail in a game yet this season in league play, but Craig had them practising in full attack mode earlier this week in case they face some adversity today.
