Muskie soccer squads nab wins

Talk about a good start to the NorWOSSA regular season.
Both the Muskie boys’ and girls’ soccer teams were able to come away with at least a win in their season-opening games yesterday at Fort High.
The boys’ squad opened with a 4-0 shutout of the Dryden Eagles yesterday morning before also blanking the Kenora Broncos 3-0 that afternoon.
Jacob Albright earned back-to-back shutouts between the pipes for the black-and-gold.
The girls’ squad, meanwhile, opened the season with a 1-0-1 record.
The Muskies outlasted the Eagles 3-2 in the morning opener before battling to a hard fought 1-1 draw with the Broncos in the afternoon.
Both teams will resume NorWOSSA action next Wednesday (May 15) against the Eagles and Broncos in Dryden.
In NorWOSSA ‘A’ soccer action yesterday, both the Rainy River Owls’ boys’ and girls’ squads were handed narrow setbacks in Sioux Lookout.
The girls were edged by a 2-1 score by the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints of Kenora while the boys were blanked 1-0 by the Saints.
Both squads were to resume play this afternoon against the host Warriors, with the outcomes not known as of press time.
