The Muskie boys’ and girls’ soccer squads opened NorWOSSA play here yesterday with a mixed bag of results.
The boys started their season with a 3-1 victory over the Kenora Broncos yesterday morning before battling the Dryden Eagles to a 1-1 draw in the afternoon.
“If we can keep our work rate as high as it was today, I think we’ll be in good shape,” head coach Shane Beckett reasoned.
“That being said, we still need to work on moving the ball a little bit quicker,” he stressed.
“And we also need to make sure that we are capitalizing on our [scoring] opportunities.”
Anniss Seid netted a goal in both games for the black-and-gold while Brandon McGinnis and Justin Anderson also found the back of the net in the win over Kenora.
Meanwhile, despite a number of quality scoring chances, the Muskie girls were unable to bulge the twine in their two games yesterday.
They played Kenora to a scoreless draw before losing 2-0 to Dryden.
“If we can take the first half from our Dryden game, and combine that with our second half from the game against Kenora, we’ll be all set,” noted Muskie coach Sarah Noonan.
“As whole, I really liked how we played, and our focus was really good, but we just didn’t get the shots into the net,” she stressed.
Both teams resume league play next Wednesday when they travel to Kenora to take on the Broncos and Eagles once again.
