The Muskie boys’ and girls’ curling rinks are off to Terrace Bay this weekend for the NWOSSAA playdowns, where they will be vying for berths to the all-Ontarios later this month.
Both squads, who advanced by capturing NorWOSSA gold in Sioux Lookout earlier this week, will face Sioux Lookout on Sunday afternoon in the opening draw of the round-robin event.
The boys’ rink, made up of skip Isaac Keffer, third Cody Heyens, second Ian Grant, and lead Jordan Sokoliuk, punched their ticket to Terrace Bay after going 5-0 record at NorWOSSA to finish first overall, beating Sioux Lookout, Rainy River, Atikokan, Beaver Brae, and St. Thomas Aquinas.
The girls’ foursome also went undefeated at NorWOSSA as skip Tirzah Keffer, third Samantha Mueller, second Taylor Hartlin, and lead Carley Busch racked up wins over Atikokan, Beaver Brae, Rainy River, and Sioux Lookout.
The Muskie mixed rink, made up of skip Luke Esselink, third Karleigh Wright, second Ben Tysz, and lead Megan Paterson, came out of a three-team tie-breaker to defeat host Sioux Lookout for NorWOSSA silver.
However, that marked the end of their season as there is no mixed event at the NWOSSAA level.
The NWOSSAA playdowns continue until Tuesday afternoon, with the tops boys’ and girls’ rinks then advancing to the OFSAA championships coming up March 23-26 in Thunder Bay.
