The Muskie boys’ rink, skipped by Isaac Keffer, earned the silver medal at the OFSAA curling championships in Thunder Bay on Saturday, falling 5-2 to St. James (Guelph) in the final at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
The Fort High crew, which also featured third Cody Heyens, second Ian Grant, lead Jordan Sokoliuk, and fifth Luke Esselink, were tied 2-2 with the Tyler Sagan foursome through four ends of play.
But they gave up a deuce in the sixth end, then a steal of one in the seventh to seal their fate.
After finishing the round-robin in second place in Pool ‘A,’ the Muskies dumped Brebeuf College (Toronto) 6-2 in the quarter-finals later Friday, then edged host St. Ignatius 4-3 in the semi-finals Saturday morning.
The semi-final came down to a measurement in the last end to determine which team had the second shot stone, with St. Ignatius already lying one and having a chance to force an extra end.
But the Muskie stone was deemed to be closer to the button to clinch the victory and a trip to the gold-medal game that afternoon.
