Muskie pucksters sweep Warriors

The Muskie hockey teams both won yesterday to sweep a pair of games against the visiting Sioux Lookout Warriors.
The boys’ squad improved to 6-0 in NorWOSSA play with a 9-2 romp at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
It was close to start as the black-and-gold only led 1-0 after one period on Dayton Labbe’s goal from the top of the left face-off circle.
Mikel Ward drew the assist.
Reed Bodnar, assisted by Eric Pitkanen, made it 2-0 in the second before the Warriors got on the board.
The Muskies regained a two-goal cushion on a tally by call-up Cousineau (first name not provided), assisted by Austin Armstrong and Kendyn Faragher, but the Warriors quickly stormed back to make it 3-2.
Connor Nelson, from Pitkanen, put the Muskies up 4-2–and it was all Fort High from then on out.
Pitkanen scored unassisted before Nelson netted a power-play goal from Byron Stewart to make it 6-2 through two period.
Pitkanen (unassisted), Cole Magill (Kaleb Bruyere), and Faragher (Armstrong) added third-period goals to round out the scoring.
Darian Klem earned the win in goal, with Jayden Cooper playing the final two minutes of the game.
Next up for the Muskie boys’ in an exhibition showdown against the host International Falls Broncos this Friday.
The Muskie girls, meanwhile, reportedly earned a 4-0 shutout over the visiting Warriors yesterday at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The goal scorers were not listed on the team’s website.
The squad next is scheduled to host the Warroad Warriors in an exhibition game this Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
