Both Muskie hockey teams have been slicing through their NorWOSSA opponents so far this season like a Ginsu knife through a tomato.
The boys’ squad improved to 3-0 in league play with a 6-1 win last night over the host St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora).
Jarred Taylor paced Fort High with four points, including a pair of goals that featured the game-winner in the first period.
Aaron McDowall added a goal and two assists while Sam Tibbs, Braden Webb and Malcolm King (in his return from injury) also netted markers.
Derek Kaemingh earned the victory in net for the Muskies, who led 3-0 after the first and 4-1 after the second.
David Snyder notched the lone goal for the Saints while Ryan Landon was tagged with the loss between the pipes.
The Muskie girls (2-0) put the boots to the host Dryden Eagles 7-2 on Tuesday night.
The Eagles only trailed 3-2 after two periods, but were powerless to stop a Fort High attack that stung the home squad for four goals in the third.
Muskie captain Shelby Tymkin bookended the final stanza with a pair of goals to complete her hat trick which began in the second period.
Amy Penner notched a pair while Jessica Coran and Kaily Greengrass had singles.
Calie Clendenning made 23 saves for the Muskies, who rallied despite losing veteran forward Hailey Clendenning in the second period after she received a minor and a game misconduct for hitting from behind.
Martina Wintle and Elizabeth Carter scored for Dryden, with C.J. Jolicoeur taking the loss in goal.
The Muskie girls head to Sioux Lookout tonight to take on the Warriors in NorWOSSA action.
Their next home game is set for Tuesday (Dec. 3) at 7:15 p.m. in their much-anticipated border battle with the International Falls Broncos,
The game also will feature the team’s annual “Teddy Bear Toss,” in which fans are asked to bring stuffed toys with them to throw on the ice after the first Muskie goal.
The toys then will be collected and distributed by the local Salvation Army during the Christmas season.
