Muskie puck squads split

The Kenora Broncos wanted to impress the home crowd from the opening face-off.
Seven seconds later, they were digging the puck out of their own net for what would be the beginning of a long night.
Jarred Taylor’s early marker started a four-point night for himself as the Muskie boys dumped the Broncos 10-2 in NorWOSSA action Tuesday night.
Taylor scored again in the third and added two assists as Fort High (4-0) cemented its hold on top spot in the league with its second-straight convincing win over the Broncos.
The black-and-gold led 3-1 after the first and 7-2 after the second.
Hunter Koles led the way with a hat trick while Brent Jourdain added a pair.
Singles went to Max Williams, Matt Cheetham, and Tyler VanUden.
Jordan Carlson earned the win in goal.
The Muskies once again played without defencemen Carter Brown (shoulder) and Wade Johnson (lower body).
The squad next hosts the Dryden Eagles tomorrow night at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
As for the Muskie girls, a staggering streak of success came to an end last night in Dryden.
Their 3-2 loss to the Eagles ended Fort High’s 21-game winning streak in NorWOSSA play dating back to the beginning of last season.
It also proved the Eagles (4-0) are not going to let the Muskies (2-1) repeat as NorWOSSA champs without a fight.
Amy Penner had both goals for the Muskies while Kate
Parsons took the loss in goal.
It was better news on Tuesday night, when the Muskie girls won the first instalment in this year’s border battle with the International Falls Broncos—grabbing a 5-3 decision at Bronco Arena.
Kaily Greengrass netted a hat trick, including two in the third period, while Penner and Sam McKinnon added a goal apiece.
Calie Clendenning made 26 saves to earn the win.
The two teams will clash again here Jan. 12.
This weekend, the Muskies head to Thunder Bay to take on the Thunder Bay Midget ‘AAA’ Queens in an exhibition series.
Their next home game is set for Dec. 11 versus the Kenora Broncos.
