Both the Muskie senior and junior basketball teams defended their home court in fine fashion yesterday with convincing victories over the Dryden Eagles.
The seniors improved to 5-0 in NorWOSSA play with a 60-20 rout.
Justin Anderson had a game-high 12 points while Travis Stromness added 10.
The Muskies led 18-3 after one quarter and 36-7 at the half, then were able to use their whole bench the rest of the way.
The black-and-gold had beaten the Baudette Bears in exhibition play on Tuesday by a 65-46 score, with Jeremy Strain netting 17 points while his brother, Josh, added 15.
The juniors, meanwhile, pulled out a 37-27 win to up their NorWOSSA record to 5-0, as well.
They had jumped out to a 14-4 first-quarter lead, but let Dryden creep back into it—taking a slim 19-15 lead into the half.
But the squad rebounded with a good third quarter, scoring 13 points, to regain momentum and remain undefeated in league play.
Dustin Eyolfson led the way with seven points while Cody Brown added six.
The juniors also beat Baudette in exhibition play on Tuesday, earning a slim 47-43 victory.
Spikers split
On the volleyball court here yesterday, the Muskie junior girls’ squad sent a strong message to Dryden.
Fort High battled back from a two-set deficit to overcome the pesky Eagles in a five-set nail-biter by scores of 20-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-20, and 15-12.
With the comeback win, the Muskies moved atop the NorWOSSA standings with a 4-1 record while Dryden dropped to 3-2.
The outcome was not so rosy for the Muskie senior squad, however, as they lost to the Eagles for the third-straight time by scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-19.
The team now sports a 2-3 record, which puts them in second place behind the undefeated Eagles.
All four teams were back on the court today in Kenora to face the Broncos.
