Muskie hoopsters jump to 2-0 starts

The Muskies senior boys’ basketball team dumped the Dryden Eagles 51-31 there yesterday afternoon to improve their NorWOSSA record to 2-0.
“It was a much better performance than we did in the last game,” head coach Paul Noonan said.
“It was a lot more disciplined,” he added, noting the team had slashed the number of turnovers that had cropped up in its 65-46 victory over Kenora in their season-opener on Tuesday.
Leading scorers for the Muskies yesterday were Morgan Anderson with 15 points, followed by Jeremy Strain with 12 and Kurtis Hill eight.
Noonan was as happy with the play as with the result. “We just controlled the ball a lot better,” he remarked. “I was really happy with the output.”
In related news, the black-and-gold opened the annual La Place Rendez-Vous senior boys’ basketball tournament here this afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Queen Elizabeth Warriors (Sioux Lookout).
They’ll face the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) at 8 p.m. tonight, followed by final match-ups tomorrow morning.
In other NorWOSSA action yesterday in Dryden, the Muskie junior boys’ basketball team also won their second-straight game, coming away with a 48-28 victory.
But both Muskie girls’ volleyball lost to the Eagles yesterday. The junior girls (1-1) fell in five sets, splitting the first four by scores of 12-25, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-9 before losing 15-4 in the tie-breaker.
The seniors (0-2) were swept by the Eagles, losing 25-14, 25-19, and 25-8. But they will get another shot at glory at the Santa Claus Classic tournament this weekend up in Dryden.
