For the first time in Fort High history, both the Muskie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams captured their respective league crowns.
The girls captured their first-ever league title—this year known as the Northland Cup—by beating the host Kenora Broncos 5-1 on Sunday, giving them the two-game, total-goal series by a 6-1 margin.
The Muskies spread their offence around, with Shelby Tymkin, Claire Sandelovich, Amber Jourdain, Hailey Clendenning, and Katie Sinclair all finding the back of the net yesterday.
Kate Parsons, who turned aside every shot she faced in a 1-0 shutout performance in the series-opener here last Wednesday night, also earned yesterday’s win between the pipes.
On Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena, the Muskie boys captured their seventh-straight league title with a 4-0 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora), giving them the series victory by a total margin of 8-4.
After giving up two late goals in the series-opener en route to a 4-4 tie last Tuesday in Kenora, the black-and-gold turned in one of their strongest performances of the season, with Jonah Johnson leading the way in goal with the shutout.
Up front, Dylan Curtis netted a pair of goals while Braden Webb and David Pryde also scored.
Neither Muskie squad will be heading to the all-Ontarios, however, due to the fallout from the teachers’ protest over Bill 115.
