Both Muskie hockey squads were victorious in NorWOSSA action yesterday afternoon against the visiting Sioux Lookout Warriors.
Captain Annalise (“CC”) Hayes had a hat trick while Siobhan MacKintosh scored twice to lead the Muskie girls to a 9-2 romp at the Ice For Kids Arena.
After Jess Steele opened the scoring, MacKintosh and Lillie MacKinnon boosted the lead to 3-0.
Hayes then added a pair of goals to make it 5-1.
MacKintosh upped the lead to 6-1 before the Warriors closed the gap.
But that was as close as Sioux Lookout would get as Kelsey Langtry, Jillian Calder, and Hayes rounded out the scoring.
The team’s Twitter feed did not indicate who the winning goalie was.
The same two teams clashed again this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Muskies then will host the Warroad Warriors in an exhibition contest this Thursday (Dec. 21) at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Muskie boys, meanwhile, earned a 4-1 win over the Warriors at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Eric Pitkanen put the Muskies on the board first, assisted by Austin Armstrong and Connor Nelson.
Pitkanen then made it 2-0, with Kaleb Bruyere and Reed Bodnar drawing the assists.
Cole Allan then sprung Brett Kenny, who made it 3-0, before the Warriors finally scored to make it 3-1 through two periods.
Armstrong, assisted by Kayden Nelson and Mikel Ward, had the lone third-period goal.
Darian Klem earned the win in goal.
The same two squads were scheduled to square off again this afternoon at 3:30 p.m., this time at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
