The Muskie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams were able to show off just what has made them successful this season with spectacular showing at the annual Scott Clendenning Memorial Showcase held here over the weekend.
The boys’ squad compiled a 4-0 record and allowed just a single goal each game as part of a strong showing.
Fort High opened play on Friday morning with a 3-1 win over the Dryden Eagles at Ice For Kids Arena before then downing the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) by the same score that afternoon at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
The Muskies then dumped the Red Lake Rams 6-1 on Saturday morning before thumping the Kenora Broncos 10-1 in the “Showcase” finale that evening.
Both games took place at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Fort High had gone into the “Showcase” fresh off a 2-1 loss to the Saints in Kenora in NorWOSSA action on Thursday afternoon.
It was the first loss of the season for the Muskies, who saw their record fall to 10-1.
Nolan Mann scored the squad’s lone goal in the third period with Muskie captain Reed Bodnar drawing the lone assist on the play.
As for the Muskie girls, they compiled a 3-1 record to also dazzle at the “Showcase”.
After dropping the opener by a 5-0 count to the Saints on Friday morning at the Fort Frances ’52 Canadians Arena, the Muskies rattled off three straight wins.
Fort High throttled both the Sioux Lookout Warriors and Kenora Broncos by an identical 7-2 score on Saturday, with both games taking place at “The Duke”.
The Muskies then ended play at the “Showcase” with a 4-1 win over the Confederation College Thunderhawks.
Both Muskie squads were slated to conclude the NorWOSSA regular season today with games in Dryden against the Eagles, with the outcomes of the game not known as of press time.
The boys’ game was slated for 6:30 p.m. while the girls were to play a doubleheader.
The first game was slated for 1 p.m. with the final game to follow at 7 p.m.
