Muskie golfers tune up

The Muskie golf season isn’t until the fall but the team got a head start on things this past weekend at the Giant’s Ridge golf course in Biwabik, Mn.
“It was a tough first test for our golfers, but the Quarry at Giant’s Ridge is one of the best golf courses in Minnesota, and it was nice to get them down there to play it,” golf coach Shane Bliss explained.
“Conditions were tough, it was cold and windy, the fairways were damp so there was no roll, so it was probably playing over 7,000 yards as it was 6,700 to begin with,” he added.
Kevin Jackson had the low scores for Fort High with rounds of 86 and 88 in an event that featured 26 different schools (the Minnesota high school golf season runs during the spring).
The Muskie golf team gets together to do four or five exhibition tournaments during the spring ahead of the fall NorWOSSA season, with a tournament in International Falls next up today.
The 10 players taking part include Jackson, Alex McDonald, Brad McDonald, Mike Jourdain, Nick Jourdain, Jason Angus, Jacob Dokuchie, Cody Ward, Zach Jolicouer, and Jesse Ranville.
“The top six scores from the Falls tournament will qualify for our next tournament at The Wilderness at Fortune Bay [Tower, Mn.],” noted Bliss.
