Their overall score was better but the Muskie golf team couldn’t overcome a heavenly performance by a single Saint.
The black-and-gold improved by eight strokes as a group Tuesday in Kenora from their NorWOSSA season-opening victory last week in Sioux Lookout.
But an impressive round of 74 by Noden Carlson fuelled the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints to a total combined score of 351 to edge the second-place Muskies by two strokes (353).
Kendyn Faragher carded an 84 to lead Fort High while Cole Kowalski had an 85.
Kaleb Bruyere posted a 91, with Matthew Gerstner rounding out the Muskies’ four qualifying scores with a 93.
Other Muskie results included Mikel Ward (95), Aiden Wielinga (98), and Gordy Scott (116).
Fort High will host the NorWOSSA regular-season finale Sept. 22 at Kitchen Creek.
The top-finishing players and teams from the regular season advance on to the NWOSSAA championships Oct. 2-3 in Thunder Bay.
