Muskie golf pair make NWOSSAA

Holding one’s breath for five holes is no easy task.
But when Muskie golf coach Brian Johnstone finally exhaled, he was one happy man.
Team members Tyson-Skylar Morrisseau and Kendyn Faragher both qualified for the NWOSSAA championship following their NorWOSSA season-ending performances yesterday at the Beauty Bay golf course in Kenora.
Morrisseau, coming off a shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw from last week’s tournament at Heron Landing, battled through his ailment to card a round of 91.
That left him tied for 11th in the boys’ division with Sean Gula of Red Lake.
“He reinjured the shoulder with five holes to play and when he came through at that point, I was hoping he wasn’t going to hurt it worse,” noted Johnstone.
“But he fought through it.”
Morrisseau finished 15th overall in the standings with 145 points, but only needed to be among the top five point-getters outside of players on the top three teams (the Kenora Broncos, St. Thomas Aquinas Saints, and Dryden Eagles) to qualify for NWOSSAA.
His 68 points yesterday pushed him into third place among players from Fort High, the Red Lake Rams, and Sioux Lookout Warriors, who did not participate in yesterday’s event.
Joining Morrisseau at the NWOSSAA, which goes next Thursday (Oct. 2) in Thunder Bay, is Faragher, who posted a 96 yesterday to finish tied for 17th with Jade Litwin (Red Lake).
That gave him 50 points for the day and 132 for the season—putting him fourth behind Morrisseau in the overall standings.
The Muskies finished fifth in the team event yesterday with 393.
Kenora was first with 335, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (342), Dryden (347), and Red Lake (382).
