Altona’s high school girls’ hockey tournament was decidedly unkind to the visiting Muskies over the weekend as the black-and-gold lost three-straight games after opening with a win.
Things started well enough in Manitoba for the Muskies with a whopping 10-0 win over Garden Valley Collegiate.
Taylor Meyers and Lauren Krukoski each registered a hat trick, with Carlee Bosma adding two goals. Nina Bird and Kristen Penner rounded out the scoring.
But things took a turn for the worse in their second game as they fell 2-1 to Sturgeon Heights. The team was unable to capitalize on six power-play chances, with Penner scoring the only goal from Bird and Krukoski.
Their third game saw higher scoring, but again the Muskies came out on the short end—falling 8-4 to St. James.
Bird scored twice, with Meyers and Bosma adding one each.
The Muskies capped the tournament with a rematch against Sturgeon Heights, which was more of the same as Fort High lost 3-1. Lauren Pierce netted the lone goal from Jessica Barker and Bird.
The girls’ next action is at a tournament in Dryden this coming weekend, with their first game against the Kenora Broncos slated for Friday at 2 p.m.
