The Muskie girls’ soccer team was looking to get off the offensive schneid at their home tournament over the weekend.
The Hanover Hype, a club team from Winnipeg, seemed to be just the tonic the black-and-gold needed.
Fort High combined for seven goals in their two games against Hanover, including a 5-3 victory in Saturday’s consolation final.
The Muskies were able to pull out the bronze medal after finishing winless in the round-robin.
Fort High sandwiched a 4-2 loss to Hanover in between a pair of shutouts—1-0 by St. Thomas Aquinas (Kenora) and 3-0 by eventual champion St. Patrick’s (Thunder Bay).
Courtney Roach and Nicole Mueller found the net in the round-robin loss to Hanover.
Mueller and Jessica Caul then notched a pair in the consolation win, with Roach rounding out the scoring.
Both Muskie squads are set to wrap the NorWOSSA regular season this Wednesday in Kenora.
The girls sit at 0-3-1 in league play while the boys are in first place—needing just a tie to clinch top spot.
The league playoffs are slated for May 26 in Dryden, with the all-Ontarios scheduled for June 3-5.
Sarnia will host the girls’ showdown while Windsor welcomes the boys.
