Muskie girls’ soccer tryouts underway

The Muskie girls’ soccer team is getting ready to hit the pitch in hopes of having another successful season.
Head coach Struchan Gilson said Monday he’s expecting to have about 18-20 players back from last year’s squad, which competed at the all-Ontario’s here last June as the host team.
“It leaves me with not a lot of room [for cuts] and there are a lot of kids coming out from grade nine, which are good,” he noted.
Gilson said he wants to choose players who can play this season but he also doesn’t want to discourage others from trying out.
“I will probably carry a ‘taxi’ squad, who will practice and play a couple of games. Then if there are any injuries, we slide kids up,” he reasoned.
Gilson noted there are three components to Muskie soccer.
“Fitness [which they do every day], skill, and a game plan are the three components,” he said. “If you can’t run, you can’t play the game.”
He also said he’ll be depending on his captains–Sarah Noonan, Chrissy Thomson, and Amy Shute–to help out a lot.
Caroline Spencer once again will back as assistant coach.
