The Muskie girls’ hockey team will host the annual Scott Clendenning Memorial Showcase this weekend.
Four teams are taking part, with action getting underway Friday at 2:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The black-and-gold will open play Friday at 7:15 p.m. against the Thunder Bay Queens, then will hit the hit twice Saturday versus the Kenora Broncos (12:15 p.m.) and the Thunder Bay Fury (6:15 p.m.)
Then the Muskies will close out play Sunday at 1:15 p.m. against the Dryden Eagles.
Admission is $5/day or $10/weekend for adults, $3/day or $6/weekend for seniors, and $2 for youths aged 13-18 (those 12 and under are free).
Season passes will be honoured for admission in the “Showcase.”
The Muskie girls are coming off a win at the annual Sturgeon Heights tournament in Winnipeg over the weekend.
Fort High beat Vincent Massey 8-3 in the final, avenging an earlier loss to the Trojans in round-robin play.
The Muskies opened play with a 6-0 win over St. John’s Ravenscourt, then blanked College Jeanne-Sauve 2-0.
Then after falling 6-4 to Vincent Massey, the black-and-gold blanked the Selkirk Royals 5-0.
Kamryn Sandelovich played in net for all the games the Muskies won, recording three shutouts.
Game MVPs were rookie Khali Degagne, Annalise (CC) Hayes, Siobhan MacKintosh, and Sandelovich.
Hayes was named MVP of the championship game.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys’ hockey team also was in Winnipeg for a tournament on the weekend, going 4-1 to capture the ‘B’-side title.
Fort High opened play with wins over Garden City (3-1) and Stonewall (6-1) before losing 6-2 to Sturgeon Heights (the eventual ‘A’-side winners).
But the Muskies rebounded with a 7-1 romp over St. Johns Ravenscourt before edging the JH Bruins 5-4 in the ‘B’ final.
The squad will open defence of its NorWOSSA title on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at home against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora).
