One day, the Kenora Broncos will prove a worthy foe once again for the Muskie girls’ hockey team.
Yesterday was not that day.
Kaily Greengrass and Amy Penner each scored twice, and Shilo Beck added four assists, as the Muskies ran their NorWOSSA record to 5-0 with an 8-1 romp in Kenora.
Amber Jourdain and Greengrass scored 10 seconds apart inside the first three minutes of the game—and the rout was on from there.
Greengrass netted her second at 11:44, followed by Hailey Clendenning lighting the lamp at 16:48 to make it 4-0 by the end of the first period.
Penner, Shelby Tymkin, and Claire Sandelovich scored in the second before the Broncos gave the home crowd a rare chance to cheer when Taylor Alcock found the mark with 21 seconds left to make it 7-1.
Beck finished off her play-making night by setting up Penner’s second of the game at 14:08 of the third.
Kate Parsons earned the win between the pipes while Becca Mahon took the loss.
The Muskies stayed overnight in Kenora, where they began play today at the annual Bronco K-Town Classic tournament.
The black-and-gold will be one of seven teams split in two pools vying for the championship.
Fort High’s first game was at 1 p.m. versus NorWOSSA foe the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora), who the Muskies blanked 9-0 in the bronze-medal game of the Portage Collegiate Institute Christmas Classic last Sunday in Portage la Prairie.
The Muskies, in Pool ‘B’ with the Saints, Red Lake Rams, and Vincent Massey Trojans (Winnipeg), then will take on the Rams at 5:30 p.m.
The playoffs begin tomorrow, with the final set for Sunday.
