Muskie girls’ notch another victory

The Muskie girls’ hockey team came out on top in their exhibition game against host Rainy River High School last night, skating away with a 5-4 victory.
Kailey Curtis put the black-and-gold on the scoreboard first when she hit the twine at 9:17 of the opening period. Taylor Meyers then fired one past Rainy River’s goalie less than three minutes later to make it 2-0.
Rainy River got one of those back with just over two minutes left in the period.
Both teams traded two goals each in the middle stanza to leave the score 4-3 after two. Hannah Firth and Carly Holt (on the power play) were the Muskie snipers.
After Rainy River knotted the score at 9:17 of the third on the power play, Nina Bird played the role of hero less than a minute later when she netted the game-winning goal.
Both Muskie hockey teams resume NorWOSSA action tonight against the visiting Dryden Eagles.
The girls take the ice at 7:15 p.m. in the Ice for Kids Arena while the boys’ game starts at 7:30 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
It will be their last action before the Christmas holidays.
