Muskie girls lose to Dryden

The Muskie girls’ hockey team had a real barn-burner in Dryden on Monday night but they came away on the short end of a 3-2 score.
“It was a good game,” remarked co-coach Jim McMahon. “We were slow in the first period but we outplayed them in the second and third.”
He also noted two defensive players were hurt so the team was scrambling just to keep up to the bodies they were losing.
They’ll be back in March 2 in Dryden and again March 3 up in Red Lake.
Meanwhile, the Muskie junior boys’ basketball team crossed the border Monday for an exhibition game against the International Falls Broncos and came home with a 45-39 victory.
“It was nice because our bench performed well,” enthused head coach Dave Ashworth.
Colin McGinnis and Mark Buist led the Muskie attack with 10 points each, followed by Kevin Gemmell (nine) and Kurtis Wepruk (six).
The juniors had finished the NorWOSSA regular season with a 7-1 record, and earned a bye in the league final this Friday in Dryden against the winner of the semi-final showdown between the Eagles and Kenora Broncos.
“Hopefully we won’t come out flat,” said Ashworth, noting the team they’ll face will be somewhat tired because of having to play in the semi-final earlier in the day.
