Muskie girls’ hockey team tourney on tap

The second-annual Fort Frances Muskie girls’ hockey tournament gets underway tonight at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The six-team field, which includes Kenora, Dryden, St. Thomas Aquinas (Kenora), Sioux Lookout, and Altona, has been divided into two pools.
Each squad will play the two teams in their pool as well as a cross-over game against a team from the other pool.
The championship round, which takes place Sunday, will feature three games.
The third-place teams after pool play will compete for fifth- and sixth place at 9:15 a.m., with the bronze-medal game slated for 11:15 a.m.
Then the top two teams from pool play vie for the tourney championship at 1:15 p.m.
All three of Sunday’s game will take place at the Ice for Kids Arena.
The Muskies begin their quest for the tournament title tonight when they face Kenora at 7:45 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Then they’ll face Altona tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. before wrapping up pool play against Sioux Lookout at 7:15 p.m., both at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Each game will feature three 15-minute stop time periods, except for the championship game, which will have three 20-minute stop time periods.
Admission is $3 per day or $10 for the weekend. Those with season passes will be admitted free.
Season passes, which also will be available during the weekend tournament, cost $35 each for all 18 Muskie home games this season.
