Muskie girls finish 12th

They tried to make the most of a difficult situation, but it was not to be.
The Muskie girls’ hockey team lost both its games today in the consolation bracket to finish 12th at the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championship in Stratford.
The Ecole secondaire catholique Embrun Cyclones beat the Muskies for the second time in the tournament by an identical 5-1 score in the consolation bronze-medal game.
Embrun scord two in the first and three in the second to go in front 5-0.
Rylee Redford netted the Muskies’ only goal on a rebound after a breakaway by captain Rachel Jean late in the third period.
Fort High, ranked fourth going into the tournament, already was out of the running for a shot at matching its silver-medal showing last year in Kenora after it lost its first two games of the tournament on Tuesday.
The Muskies then lost 3-0 in their final game in Pool ‘D’ yesterday against the Mother Teresa Spartans (London) to finish 0-3 in the preliminary round.
Relegated to the losers’ bracket of the 16-team field, the black-and-gold rebounded to edge the Timmins Blues 3-2 in the consolation quarter-finals later yesterday.
Annalise Hayes scored twice while Emma Noga notched the other goal.
The Muskies then faced the Lambton Lancers (Petrolia) in the consolation semi-finals earlier today and jumped out to a 2-0 second-period lead on goals by Hayes and Avery Cates.
But the Lancers struck for two quick goals late in the frame, then scored the game-winner with 3:13 left in the third to take a 3-2 decision.
