Muskie girls dump Kenora

The Muskie girls’ hockey team picked up their first win of the NorWOSSA season last with a 5-1 victory over the Kenora Broncos at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The black-and-gold had opened league play with a tie versus the Dryden Eagles up there.
Starting the game off strong and spending most of their time in Kenora’s end, Nina Bird netted the first goal at 11:25 of the opening period. Muskie captain Sarah O’Sullivan then made it 2-0 with her beauty goal at 9:54.
Muskie goalie Katie Sterns turned in another stellar performance, making clutch saves while the black-and-gold were short-handed, to keep the score 2-0 halfway through the second.
After Carly Holt netted one at 10:16 of the second, Kailey Curtis followed up seconds later with her clean shot on goal to make it 4-0.
The Broncos finally managed to put one past Stearns, but it wasn’t long before Fort High came back to regain a four-goal lead. This time it was Deanna Saunders doing the honours.
The third period was scoreless.
The Muskies, who were coming off a 13-0 romp over Babbitt in exhibition action here Friday night, next face Baudette there on Monday (Nov. 28).
