Muskie girls carry day at qualifier

Seven female Muskies flexed their badminton muscles Wednesday at the NorWOSSA qualifying tournament in Atikokan.
Three doubles teams and one singles player all finished in the top two of their respective divisions to advance to the NorWOSSA final next Wednesday (April 16) in Kenora.
The senior girls’ doubles team of Simone and Natalie Desjardins went undefeated in Atikokan to capture their division, handing fellow Muskies and second-place finishers Jen Lawson and Sarah Paterson their only loss at the qualifier.
Those two duos will be joined in Kenora by the team of Jacquie Hart and Kayla Shine, who finished second in the junior girls’ doubles division and were the only junior Muskies to qualify.
Muskie hopes of singles glory in Kenora next Wednesday will rest solely on the shoulders of Tracy Treflin, who won both her matches to take the senior girls’ crown in Atikokan.
The NWOSSAA playoffs are slated April 23 in Thunder Bay, with the all-Ontario scheduled for May 1-3 in Milton.
