One period was all the Muskie girls’ hockey team needed to capture themselves a bearskin rug to keep warm on the ride home.
The black-and-gold did all their damage in the second period en route to a 4-0 shutout over the Lake of the Woods Bears in exhibition action last night in Baudette.
After a scoreless first period, Fort High jumped on their hosts for three goals in a span of 1:59 before the middle frame was four minutes old.
Danielle Jean ignited the onslaught at 1:47 on a set-up from Shelby Rea and Jillian Langtry.
Sydney Jones then tallied on a pass from Katie Sinclair at 3:27 before Shelby Tymkin got in on the fun just 19 seconds, with Taylor Dixon drawing the assist.
Shae-lynn Smith cemented the win when she struck for an unassisted goal at 15:29 while the Muskies were short-handed.
Dana Cridland, meanwhile, took care of matters between the pipes, stopping 31 shots to earn the shutout.
After a week-break for final exams, the Muskies will step back on the ice Jan. 28-29 at the Pembina Tigers’ home tournament in Manitoba.
Their next home game—the annual exhibition clash with the International Falls Broncos—is slated for Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The squad returns to NorWOSSA action on Friday, Feb. 4 here against the Sioux Lookout Warriors.
The Muskie boys, meanwhile, still have a little bit of work left to do before the exam break.
They head to Red Lake Falls, Mn. tomorrow to face the Lafayette Eagles in an exhibition game.
