After last Thursday’s 65-14 romp over Sturgeon Creek (Winnipeg) here, the Muskie football team will be in for a much tougher battle this Friday at 7 p.m. over in International Falls.
“We are definitely the underdogs for the game,” assistant coach Greg Allan said. “The Falls is a very well-coached team. They always come out as a complete team and we are going to have to play hard to beat them.
“Until we have beaten them–until we have a victory–we will always be the underdogs,” Allan noted.
But he also said being the underdog makes the Muskies play harder. “The younger guys will have to work harder,” he noted. “We will also be depending on some of the senior guys to do things right.”
And Allan said they’re going to have to keep every play going right to the whistle.
“We will have to play a good game–there is no room for errors,” he stressed. “We can’t let up at all. The team will have to be mentally tough out on the field to do well.”
But Allan also said the Muskies are as good as the Falls athletes.
“Our offense is doing well. I am sure we can do well and score some points,” he remarked. “We have been working on our defence . . . we know that we are going to give up some yards and maybe points.
“This is going to be a tough physical game. Whatever the score is, it is,” he said.
He added all the coaches are asking is the players to play the best they can. That goes for the coaches, too.
“We [the coaches] are going to have to be on top of the plays as well and make sure they are being executed properly,” Allan stressed.
