After a solid 22-3 victory over the John Taylor Pipers last Friday, the Fort Frances High School Muskie football team will head to Winnipeg for an evening game against the Beaver Brae Broncos of Kenora, looking to book a date at Princess Auto Stadium for the Currie Bowl finals.

Malachi Barkley was electric once again last Friday, despite heavy coverage by the Piper defence. Barkley scored a punt-return touchdown to get the Muskies going into the first half, which was followed by a two-point conversion to put the Muskies up 8-0.

The Muskie defence bent but didn’t break as the Pipers drove down the field throughout the game. The Muskies only surrendered one field goal and forced a handful of turnovers as the Pipers got deep into Muskie territory, including a Landon Hammond fumble recovery and a Jaydon Ngenzi interception, which kept the Pipers off the board in the second half.

The Broncos beat the Portage Trojans to advance to the semis.

The semi-final game will kick off at 5 p.m. in Winnipeg at Fort Garry Lions Field where the game will take place under the lights on the artificial turf surface.
