The Muskie senior football team will have to be on their ‘A’ game this season—the first half of which will be spent away from the green grass of home.
Under the Winnipeg High School Football League’s schedule, released this past week, the black-and-gold won’t host a game until Oct. 3.
The Muskies will open action with their annual pre-season game against the International Falls Broncos on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. across the river.
Then they’ll play four-straight Friday games away from Muskie Field, beginning with their regular-season opener Sept. 5 against the Grant Park Pirates.
The squad then returns to the Manitoba capital for games against the River East Kodiaks (Sept. 12), the Kelvin Clippers (Sept. 19), and the defending WHSFL champion Oak Park Raiders (Sept. 26), who disposed of the Muskies 35-8 in the quarter-finals last season.
October will hail the Muskies’ return to friendlier confines with 4 p.m. home games against the Churchill Bulldogs (Oct. 3), the Sisler Spartans (Oct. 10), and their regular-season finale versus the St. Paul’s Crusaders (Oct. 17).
The WHSFL playoffs will be held at the CanadInns Stadium in Winnipeg, starting with the quarter-finals to be held Oct. 23. The semi-finals are set for Oct. 31, with the Anavet Bowl championship game slated Nov. 7.
Meanwhile, the Muskie ‘B’ squad will play a five-game schedule this season, beginning with its season-opener here against Warroad on Sept. 4.
Other games include home contests against Roseau (Sept. 9) and International Falls (Sept. 25), and road battles against Warroad (Sept. 29) and Roseau (Oct. 14).
A decision on whether the Muskie ‘C’ team will be back in action this year was not known as of press time.
