If this is how good they are shorthanded, imagine how good they will be at full strength–and on home ice.
With boys’ skip Chris Silver (hamstring) and girls’ third Anika Beaudry (wrist) unable to play due to injury, the three Muskie curling teams still went a combined 10-2 at the two-day NorWOSSA qualifier, which wrapped up yesterday in Sioux Lookout.
The mixed rink of skip Jordon Bazylewski, third Mackenzie Taylor, co-seconds Macarthur Wilde and Ben Olson, and lead Sammy Stone capped a 4-0 record with a 5-3 win over the host Warriors in their final game yesterday.
The girls’ rink skipped by Tory Beaudry, with third Ashley Payne filling in for Anika Beaudry, dumped the Atikokan Voyageurs 11-3 in six ends to wind up in second at 3-1 behind the first-place Rainy River Owls (4-0).
Payne threw second stones while second Katrina Slomke threw third rocks, with lead Andrea Schram rounding out the rink.
Meanwhile, the defending OFSAA silver-medalist boys’ rink also went 3-1 in Sioux Lookout, only losing their last game 4-3 to the host Warriors. With Silver confined to the role of cheerleader and stats keeper, Daniel Vandenbrand stepped up from third to play skip, with Jason Bazylewski moving from second to third.
Regular fifth Owen Riches was the full-time second in Sioux Lookout while veteran Davis Jackson stayed at lead.
With the top six teams allowed to move on, and only five in each category at the qualifier, all of them will be at the Fort Frances Curling Club for the NorWOSSA finals Feb. 12-13.
