With two of their three teams missing a starter due to injury, the Muskie curling rinks still are cleaning up on their opponents at the NorWOSSA qualifier in Sioux Lookout, which started yesterday and continues through today.
With regular skip Chris Silver sitting out due to a pulled hamstring, regular third Daniel Vandenbrand skipped the boys’ team of third Jason Bazylewski, second Owen Riches, and lead Davis Jackson to a 3-0 mark entering their final game.
The boys topped the Rainy River Owls and Red Lake Rams yesterday, then downed the Atikokan Voyageurs this morning.
Their final game against the Sioux Lookout Warriors was in progress as of press time.
Meanwhile, with regular third Anika Beaudry nursing a bad wrist, Muskie girls’ skip Tory Beaudry and the makeshift lineup of third Ashley Payne (throwing second stones), second Katrina Slomke (throwing third rocks), and lead Andrea Schram were 2-1 going into their final game.
Fort High lost its opener yesterday to Rainy River but bounced back to thump Sioux Lookout last night.
Then after beating the Atikokan Voyageurs this morning, they’re wrapping up play against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora).
And with all hands on deck, the Muskie mixed rink was 3-0 going into its final game versus Sioux Lookout.
Skip Jordan Bazylewski, third Mackenzie Taylor, second Macarthur Wilde, and lead Sammy Stone beat the Whitefish Bay Winterhawks and Rainy River yesterday, then took care of St. Thomas Aquinas this morning.
With just five teams in each division at the qualifier that allows six teams to advance, all the rinks will move on to the NorWOSSA championships here Feb. 12-13.
