Muskie curlers in tough

You’ve got to be lucky to be good. Well, the Muskie boys’ and girls’ curling teams will need to be good and lucky—and fast.
Some first-day struggles yesterday at the NWOSSAA championships in Red Lake will force both Muskie squads to get hot in a hurry today—and also get some help from other teams—to have a shot at the all-Ontarios in St. Thomas next month.
The female rink of skip Amy Nielson, third Kate Bondett, second Katie Bolen, and lead Jenna Enge sit with a 2-2 record in their six-team group.
After losing a tight 8-7 decision to Red Lake in their opener yesterday, they rebounded to beat Manitouwadge 10-2 but then fell 8-3 to St. Ignatius (8-3).
The Muskies dumped Wawa 8-2 this morning, then had a bye for the midday draw.
Meanwhile, the Muskie male contingent of skip Adam Bolen, third Brendon Loney, second Jason Pattison, and leads Joey Wensley and David Kaun won their first game yesterday over Dryden (the score was unavailable).
But then they were nipped 7-6 by Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) in their second outing yesterday before losing 7-4 to Nipigon-Red Rock this morning to sit at 1-2 in their six-team division.
The squad still was on the ice against St. Ignatius (Thunder Bay) at press time.
The boys’ and girls’ teams with the best record at the end of the round-robin this afternoon will be crowned NWOSSAA champs.
