The Muskie boys’ curling rink is moving on.
Fort High clinched a quarter-final berth at the OFSAA championship in Thunder Bay thanks to a 7-2 win over London Central yesterday afternoon at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
Sitting at 2-1 heading into play today, the black-and-gold will advance whether they win or lose their final round-robin game against winless Malvern Collegiate Institutes (Toronto), which was still in progress as of press time at the Fort William Curling Club.
Sir Winston Churchill led Pool ‘A’ heading into today with a perfect 3-0 record, including a 5-3 win over Fort High yesterday morning.
If the Muskies—consisting of skip Isaac Keffer, third Cody Heyens, second Ian Grant, lead Jordan Sokoliuk, and fifth Luke Esselink—and Churchill both finish at 3-1, the latter still would finish first by virtue of their head-to-head win.
Meanwhile, should Fort High drop to 2-2, they still would advance by virtue of having beaten both Ridgetown and London Central during round-robin play.
The quarter-finals are set for this afternoon at the Port Arthur Curling Club, with the Muskies likely facing host St. Ignatius (Thunder Bay).
Playoff action will continue tomorrow at the Port Arthur club, with the gold-medal game slated for 1 p.m.
