Muskie curlers advance

The NorWOSSA qualifier curling bonspiel was held earlier this week at the Rainy River and Stratton curling clubs.
All three of the Muskie curling squads earned berths in the NorWOSSA final, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday at the Fort Frances Curling Club.
In mixed play held in Rainy River, the Muskies posted a pair of wins against one loss to finish second behind the host Owls.
The black-and-gold defeated Thomas Aquinas (Kenora) 8-6, then dispatched the Kenora Broncos 8-5.
Their only loss came at the hands of Rainy River, who swept their way to a 7-4 win to claim first place with a perfect 3-0 record.
On the girls’ side, also held in Rainy River, the Muskie squad earned a pair of dominant wins, cruising to an 11-I victory over Thomas Aquinas and a 12-6 victory against the Broncos.
And in boys’ play in Stratton, the Muskie foursome swept through the competition—downing Thomas Aquinas 6-0, Beaver Brae 7-4, and Rainy River 12-2.
Fort High finished first, followed by Rainy River at 2-1.
The top two teams in the boys’ and girls’ divisions at next week’s NorWOSSA showdown here will advance to the NWOSSAA finals coming up March 18-19 in Geraldton.
There is no NWOSSAA playoff in the mixed division.
