Muskie court teams capture three titles

It was a banner day for three of the four Muskie court teams on Friday at the NorWOSSA playoffs hosted by the Kenora Broncos.
The junior and senior girls’ volleyball teams, as well as the senior boys’ hoops squads, all won their respective finals to finish as league champs.
The top-ranked junior spikers swept the second-place Broncos to capture their second-straight league title by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-18.
Kenora had advanced to the final by downing the third-place Dryden Eagles in five sets earlier in the day (25-22, 22-25, 13-25, 25-12, and 18-16).
The Muskies had the bye to the final by virtue of their first-place finish in the regular season.
The top-ranked senior squad also claimed gold in straight sets over the second-place Eagles by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-23.
Dryden had beaten the third-place Broncos in four sets in the semi-finals earlier Friday (21-25, 25-12, 26-24, and 25-17).
The Muskies had the bye to the final by virtue of their first-place finish in the regular season.
In boys’ basketball action, meanwhile, the top-ranked senior squad beat the second-place Eagles 67-53 to win the title.
Dryden had defeated the third-place Broncos 44-32 in the semi-finals earlier in the day to set up the title shot against Fort High.
The Muskies had the bye to the final by virtue of their first-place finish in the regular season.
But the third-place Muskie junior boys’ basketball team saw its season end with a 43-30 loss to the second-place Dryden Eagles in the semi-finals Friday morning.
The top-ranked Broncos ended up winning the gold with a 47-37 victory in the final that afternoon.
Fort High will host the NWOSSAA girls’ volleyball championship this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 22-23) while the senior boys’ hoops squad will head to Thunder Bay to face the St. Ignatius Falcons for that NWOSSAA crown.
The winners advance to OFSAA.
