The Muskie boys’ hockey team notched a pair of exhibition wins on the road against Minnesota squads over the weekend.
The black-and-gold started things off Friday night with a 12-3 romp over Bagley, then they blanked Red Lake Falls 2-0 the following afternoon.
Ryan Witherspoon netted a hat trick in Friday night’s game while Tyler Miller, Josh Sigurdson, and Kevin Bobczynski each added a pair of goals.
Brian White, Alex McQuarrie, and Matt Redford rounded out the scoring.
Saturday afternoon’s game against Red Lake Falls proved to be a much closer contest, with Bobczynski and Miller tallying the lone goals.
In related news, the Muskie girls’ hockey team lost 3-1 to the Eveleth Bears on Friday night at the Ice for Kids Arena.
After a scrappy first period, in which the Muskies were assessed five penalties, Eveleth grabbed the lead early in the second.
Taylor Meyers knotted the score with 2:23 left before intermission, but Eveleth added a pair of goals in the third to seal the win.
Both Muskie teams resume NorWOSSA action tomorrow in Kenora.
