The Muskie boys’ soccer team had a successful weekend at the annual St. John’s-Ravenscourt tournament in Winnipeg.
The black-and-gold came home with the ‘B’-side crown after a 2-1 victory over the Glenlawn Lions (Winnipeg) yesterday afternoon.
Brandon Sinclair and Gavin Moorhouse netted second-half goals for Fort High, which gave the Muskies their first ‘B’-side title in the tournament after nine years of trying.
The Muskies advanced to the ‘B’ final thanks to a 2-0 win over the Fort Richmond Centurions (Winnipeg) in the semi-finals Saturday afternoon.
In round-robin play, the Muskies scored late in extra time to nip the Vincent Massey Trojans (Winnipeg) 1-0 on Friday afternoon, but then fell 2-1 to the River East Kodiaks (Winnipeg) on Saturday morning to drop down to the ‘B’-side playoffs.
The Muskies now will prepare for the first game of the NorWOSSA regular season here next Wednesday (May 9), when they’ll take on the Dryden Eagles at 10 a.m. and then the Kenora Broncos at 4 p.m.
The Muskie girls’ soccer team, meanwhile, will travel to Winnipeg this weekend for the St. John’s-Ravenscourt women’s tournament, which starts Friday afternoon.
