If Sunday’s result was any indication, it should take a monumental upset to unseat the Muskie boys’ hockey team in the NorWOSSA playoffs.
The Muskies improved to 8-1 in league play with a 13-0 thrashing of the Kenora Broncos here Sunday afternoon in a make-up game for the one cancelled last Tuesday night (Feb. 10) due to inclement weather.
Captain Zach McCool led the way with four goals while Mike Jourdain added a hat trick.
Taylor Jorgenson scored his first two since returning to the team four games ago, with Cody McCool, Brett McMahon, Robbie Rae, and Devon Ball all adding singles.
The Muskies scored six in the first period and five more in the second (including three shorthanded).
The black-and-gold have found chemistry with Jorgenson now playing between Jourdain and Donovan Cousineau, adding an extra element to the team’s offensive punch.
“They are good to play with,” Jorgenson said of his linemates. “Donovan is young, but he makes up for it with speed, and Mike has an excellent shot and he tends to finish off a lot of plays.”
The Muskies played Dryden here last night (the score was unavailable as of press time) and then will host Red Lake for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday to conclude the regular season.
The playoffs are set to begin a week from Friday.
Girls lose
The Muskie girls, meanwhile, continued their mini-slide with a 4-3 shootout lost to the host Kenora Broncos on Friday night.
Jillian Langtry, Taylor Meyers, and Miranda Kellar scored during regulation time while Jessie Baker notched two assists for the Muskies.
Rylee Meisner scored the shootout winner, with Kelsey Craven, Erica Wayne, and Miranda Moncrief netted the Broncos’ goals in regulation.
The Muskies sit in second in the NorWOSSA standings with a 5-5-0-1 record while the Broncos improved to 2-7-0-1.
The Muskie girls also hosted Dryden last night (the outcome was unknown as of press time).
