In what easily was the craziest NorWOSSA game that has taken place at the Ice For Kids Arena in quite some time, the Muskie boys’ hockey team eked out a 7-6 shootout win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) on Tuesday night.
After both teams scored three goals each in the opening period, the two squads traded markers over the remaining 40 minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime, which failed to break the deadlock.
In fact, it took until the seventh round of the shootout before a victor was declared as Robbie Rea’s shot trickled past Saints’ goalie Ryan Landon.
Rea also netted a pair of goals during regulation, with Chris Bobczynski, Tyler Mosbeck, Ryan Windigo, and Hunter Leishman also scoring.
Tanner Kapera led the Saints with two goals.
The Muskies will be back in action tonight when they host the Dryden Eagles at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
It also will be the black-and-gold’s final league home game before the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team also was in action Tuesday night, falling 3-2 to the host International Falls Broncos.
Shilo Beck and Hailey Clendenning were the Muskie snipers in that one.
The squad will hit the road tomorrow for a NorWOSSA contest against the Dryden Eagles.
Then they’ll return to the Ice For Kids Arena on Monday for an exhibition tilt against the Baudette Bears at 7:15 p.m.
