Muskie boys sweep opener

The Muskie boys’ soccer team began its quest to repeat as NorWOSSA champs on a winning note here yesterday, earning a pair of wins on the opening day of regular-season play.
The black-and-gold began the day with a 1-0 win over the Dryden Eagles on Colton Spicer goal early in the second half.
It came shortly after the Eagles went down to 10 men after Grant Valiquette was handed a red card.
Then in the afternoon, the Muskies scored three first-half goals in rapid succession en route to a 3-2 victory over the Kenora Broncos.
Tim Metke, Brandon Sinclair, and Jason Angus provided the offence for Fort High, who sit in first place with a 2-0 mark.
The Muskie girls also opened their NorWOSSA season yesterday at St. Francis Field, playing to a 0-0 draw versus the Eagles in the morning before falling 3-0 to the Broncos yesterday evening.
Keeper Nicole Horn stood tall between the pipes during both games, turning aside numerous scoring chances, while striker Allison Brown had a couple of scoring chances go narrowly wide during the scoreless draw against Dryden.
After taking part in a tournament in Kenora this weekend, both Muskie squads will head to Dryden next Wednesday for the second of three NorWOSSA regular-season days this year.
The regular-season finale will take place May 23 in Kenora, with the playoffs set for May 30 here.
