The Muskie boys’ hockey team is done.
Fort High—seeded fourth—was ousted from the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championships in Pembroke/Petawawa this morning with a 3-1 quarter-final loss to the 10th-ranked Patrick Fogarty Flames (Collingwood).
The Flames led 1-0 after one period, then went up 2-0 in the second before Chase McGuire (assisted by Carter Brown and Tyler VanUden) drew the Muskies within one.
But the Flames notched the lone goal of the third to advance to the semi-finals while sending the black-and-gold home.
Fort High had finished first in Pool ‘D’ with a 3-0 mark.
After opening with a 4-2 win over the host Fellowes Falcons on Tuesday, the Muskies beat the ninth-seeded St. Joseph Panthers 4-1 yesterday.
VanUden, Brent Jourdain, Sully Shortreed, and Graeme Kitt were the goal scorers.
Then they downed the sixth-seeded St. Michael’s Mustangs (Niagara Falls) 5-3 later yesterday to advance to the quarter-finals.
VanUden scored twice in that one, with Kitt, Carter, and Jarred Taylor netting the others.
The semi-finals take place later today, with the bronze- and gold-medal finals set for tomorrow.
